Jon Muth's approach to drawing and working with children is such an inspiration for my creativity workshops. Not only is he a master at his craft, but he also embodies a simple and intuitive approach which is aimed at depicting the essence of the subject. The language he uses in this film reminds me of Andy Goldsworthy in River and Tides. Muth's strong connection to subject matter and suspension of self allows the movement and ink to create a moment on paper.
We are getting ready to launch my Fall 2014 project, and I couldn't be more excited to get the gears in motion. She & the Sea: a creative exploration of women's surfing in the Pacific Northwest
The holiday season in Costa Rica is so rich when I have the opportunity to work with families over Christmas and New Years. There is something creative and inspiring about sharing the wonder of surfing and the ocean with young people. It's amazing to see their confidence, skills and competency progress over the week and watch as they create a connection to the ocean through surfing.
I couldn't be happier to be back in Costa Rica for the winter season and coaching surfing with the talented crew at Peaks N Swells. There has been a range of swells that have come through these parts in the past few weeks, which has provided us with fun surf conditions. Stripping off the wetsuit and feeling wax under my toes is such a great sensation. Pura vida, mae!
